“Buddha Bowls,” what the heck is a Buddha Bowl?
Everyone is talking about Buddha Bowls, even Oprah hopped on the bandwagon, stating that one of her favorite things is a cute little Buddha Bowls!
If you haven’t gotten on the Buddha Bowl craze or you don’t know what the heck a Buddha Bowl is, then this is a must read!
You can find a lot of theories as to the origin of the Buddha Bowl. Everything from stories of Buddha waking up every morning, carrying his bowl walking through the roads and paths where ever he was and local people would place food in the bowl as a donation. My theory? It’s a way to make a salad bar in a bowl and make it sound cool, groovy, hippy-ish and trendy. No matter what the story really is, the words Buddha Bowl just kind of warm my insides. Buddha Bowl, Buddha Bowl. It sounds like a hug.
What I love about Buddha Bowl is that they’re a terrific way to fit carbs, protein and healthy fats into a meal (plus fiber, vitamins/minerals and all the goodness that comes with eating whole nutrient dense foods).
It’s a perfect way to use leftovers and a great clean-your-fridge type of recipe! I love the combo of hot and cold, for example, last night’s butternut squash, sautéed spinach with arugula and wheat berries.
You basically add whatever veggies, nuts, seeds and grains that you’re loving at the moment or that is in season. It’s very satisfying and a perfect way to be mindful about eating.
